Mike Hayes (michael.hayes@tyndall.ie) is an internationally recognized thought and technology leader developing ‘Power IoT’ solutions, building collaborations between stakeholders, guiding and accelerating adoption of this technology. Mike worked for 20 years in the power electronics industry with US multinational Artesyn technologies in Ireland including 10 years as a senior manager for their custom engineering design team. Since 2008, he has worked at Tyndall National Institute, Cork, Ireland and is currently Head of Group, ICT for Energy Efficiency. He has accumulated 35 years of industry and academic experience in power electronics and ‘power IoT’ research focusing on micro-power management and system integration. He has written publications, roadmaps (PSMA, IEEE IRDS & HIR, EU ECS SRIA), white papers, contributed to EU studies, presenting & chairing conferences and workshops and has secured funding of >$20M for Tyndall and Irish industry partners. Mike is tech coordinator of the EU ‘LoLiPoP IoT’ project delivering long battery lifre WSN solutions. He is an industry advisory member PSMA’s board of directors, a former chair and is actively involved in several PSMA technical committees. Mike is co-founder of their energy harvesting committee and EnerHarv, a biennial international energy harvesting workshop created in 2018. He originally graduated in 1987 (B.E. hons) and obtained his M.Eng.Sc degree in engineering (planar magnetics) from University College Cork in 1993.
