PhD Candidate
McMaster Automotive Resource Centre
Guvanthi Abeysinghe (PhD Candidate, McMaster Automotive Resource Center) is currently pursuing her PhD, supervised by Dr. Ali Emadi at McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada.
Guvanthi received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. She chose to study electrical engineering due to her interest in electricity as an attractive source of energy that makes people’s lives easier. She wanted to improve the quality of its applications. So, upon entering the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, she pursued her bachelor’s degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering. After graduation, Guvanthi joined Ceylex Engineering Pvt Ltd, a local power engineering company in Sri Lanka, in May 2016. There, she worked as an electrical engineer for three years, working on the design, construction, and testing of high-voltage grid substations.
Guvanthi joined the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) in 2020 as a master’s student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She later transferred to the PhD program in 2021, where she is also working as a teaching assistant.
Guvanthi’s research focuses on power electronics converters in electric and hybrid vehicles. Her main research interest is the design and control of two-port and three-port DC–DC converters. She is presently exploring the design and control optimization of two-port and three-port DC–DC resonant converters. She has experience in converter design and control optimization based on mathematical model development, closed-loop control development, and hardware implementations.
