The paper presents a simple but effective torque control strategy for synchronous motor drives capable of active minimization of the torque ripple due to motor space harmonics. The adopted state variables are the stator flux amplitude and the electromagnetic torque estimate based on 3D Look-up-Tables (LUTs) having as inputs the components of the stator current vector defined in rotor (d,q) frame and the electrical position θ. These LUTs can be obtained either through FEA or experimental tests. Preliminary simulation and experimental results on a 10kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed torque control strategy.
