This digest summarizes the challenges faced in achieving cyber resilience in solid-state-transformer (SST) based solid-state power substations (SSPS). As an alternative to conventional low-frequency (60-/50-Hz) transformer (LFT) based power substation (CLPS), an SSPS offers scalability and flexibility to operate at higher voltage and power levels. However, the operation of SSPS involves more complex control and communication architecture which necessitates exploration of its cyber-physical vulnerability in light of its anticipation adoption in utility substations. Consequently, this manuscript emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive solution to the perceived cyber vulnerabilities that threaten SSPS operations and highlights mechanisms (that will be detailed in the final paper) to achieve this goal.
