High power density and high efficiency design is a trend in the rapid growing market of PD charger and adapters. Most of PD Charger still follow PD3.0 standard, its max output voltage and power are 20V and 100W. However, there are some requests for over load capability, therefore this presentation will show a 120W adapter design with PD3.0 output voltage range. In order to achieve high power density and high efficiency goal, boost PFC stage’s bridge diodes are replaced by active bridge, DC/DC stage is using active clamp flyback (ACF) with planar transformer to improve system’s performance and size. An optimized design procedure, which is used to design components values and help designer to make planar transformer’s layout, will be presented in this presentation. With different design consideration and optimized goal, two planar transformer designs will be compared. As a result of the presentation, audience can understand how to design a high power density and high efficiency’s boost PFC and ACF converters with planar transformer.
