This industry session will provide technical details of a general-purpose 25 kW three-phase inverter utilizing Wolfspeed’s six-pack SiC power module. The design demonstrates techniques to best take advantage of the benefits offered by SiC semiconductors, which include faster edge rates and higher switching frequencies compared to Si devices. By default, the inverter is designed to be evaluated as a simple three-phase inverter topology, but the flexibility of the generic power stage makes it simple to adapt to other applications. As such, the design is ideal for evaluating or scaling up to higher power levels in industrial motor drives, power supplies, and renewable energy applications, or as a grid-tied bi-directional active front end (AFE). The design has been empirically tested at several operating frequencies up to the rated power and includes an electrothermal simulation which has been validated with the empirical measurements.
